Jamaica’s Fraser-Pryce opens 2014 Diamond League campaign with exciting win!

Shelly Ann Fraser Pryce race video wins Doha IAAF Diamond League DohaWorld and Olympic champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce opened the 2014 Diamond League Season with a winning effort in Doha, Qatar after topping the field in the women’s 100m in 11.13 seconds.

She finished ahead of the Nigerian Blessing Okagbare who was second in a season’s best 11.18 seconds. Kerron Stewart took third spot in a season’s best 11.25 seconds with Carrie Russell ending up 4th in 11.29 seconds.

Nickel Ashmeade was the other Jamaican winner at the meet landing the men’s 200m in 20.13 seconds, beating World Championships silver medallist Warren Weir into second. Weir was timed at 20.31 seconds with Rasheed Dwyer finishing 5th in a season best 20.48 seconds.

There were also podium finishes for World Indoor Championship medallists Kaliese Spencer and Kimberley Williams.

  

Spencer placed second in the women’s 400m hurdles clocking 55.07 seconds while Williams ended third in the women’s triple jump clearing 14.15 metres. That event was won by Caterine Ibarguen of Colombia with a meet record and world leading effort of 14.43 metres.

Edino Steele was timed at 46.36 seconds for 7th in the men’s 400m which was won by the American Lashawn Merritt in a world leading 44.44 seconds while Damar Forbes finished 7th in the men’s long jump at 7.67 metres.
