Guyanese drivers in Jamaica for Caribbean Invasion

Caribbean Invasion, Dover Raceway, JRDC,

A four member Guyanese team led by Kevin Jeffrey is now on the island ahead of the first leg of the Rubis Energy/Seaboard Marine Caribbean Invasion on Saturday and Sunday at the Dover Raceway in St. Ann.

The event is also the second race meet of the 2013 local season, and will be divided into two sections – the local section and the Caribean Motor Racing Championship.

Jeffrey who will line up in group 4 or the top tier of the CMRC, indicated that he was ready for the challenge from Jamaica and the other Caribbean islands in championship.  He recently set a new lap record in Guyana as well as the fact that his car was ready for competition with very little work for his crew to do in preparation for the race day this Sunday at Dover Raceway in St. Ann.  He said that he wanted back his championship title that David Summerbell took last year.  He also said that his team would be building points toward the country championship which has two more rounds to go.

JRDC president Chris McFarlane who was on hand to meet the drivers was upbeat about the upcoming championship while promising a great event featuring high quality racing and entertainment for the entire family.

Other competing countries include host Jamaica, Barbados, Cayman Islands, and first time entrants Suriname.

Drivers from Barbados will arrive tomorrow with the Cayman and Suriname teams scheduled to arrive on Thursday for the race meet which will see qualifying on Saturday and a full day of racing on Sunday.

The other meets in the series will run in Barbados in September and Guyana in November.
