Single parent launches charity for Jamaican single mothers

Single Moms Jamrock is the brainchild of  unexpected single mother Joseann Miller and arose out of her desire to collaborate with the diverse band of Jamaican single mothers who she is convinced are facing challenges similar to her own.

Joseann did not start out as a single mother but made the brave and smart decision to leave an abusive marriage. The sad fact is that unfortunately a large portion of Jamaican children are born to single mothers who have to raise them with limited financial, physical and emotional support.

The charity wants to ensure that single mothers are viewed in an optimistic light. There is no doubt that most single mothers are dedicated to the welfare of their children. In spite of resource limitations, conscientious single mothers want to give their children the best and expose them to uplifting opportunities that positively influence their development. It is a fact that many single mothers make major sacrifices in the names of their children. Stories of mothers going to bed hungry, wearing worn clothes and holey shoes abound as they put their children first.

However, all is not gloom and stress; although single mothers are working double duty with multiple roles, they are no different from any other human beings. Apart from the sacrificial attention to the welfare or their children, they desire moderately active social lives,  to hang out with friends, go on dates and participate in hobbies.

Single Moms Jamrock’s intention is to continue to be the “Hand of Hope for Single Moms with Multiple Roles.”

Their current project is a Back to School – Backpack and School Supplies Drive. Twenty single mothers will receive backpacks with school supplies from Single Moms Jamrock and its family of faithful sponsors. They will also continue to do undertake various projects over time focused on improving the welfare of single mothers.

Single Moms Jamrock believes that single mothers have to come to terms with the fact that our children are here because of our actions and we therefore have to do the best we can for them. It is up to us to do a good job of raising them to be outstanding individuals, truly independent individuals in their own right, making positive contributions to society despite the odds.
