Tornado Sighting in Jamaica caught on Camera!

A tornado was spotted forming above the ground in a section of Discovery Bay in St. Ann yesterday.

The Land Spout was spotted yesterday in the parish. Like waterspouts, they are also technically considered tornadoes since they are defined by an intensely rotating column of air in contact with both the surface and a cumuliform cloud.

Not all landspouts are visible, and many are first sighted as debris swirling at the surface before eventually filling in with condensation and dust.

Landspouts occur mostly in the hotter summer months when the heat creates a lot of low level instability.

Landspouts are often much weaker than typical tornadoes, but have done significant damage in a few instances.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injury.
