Qualification for the FIFA Under 17 World Cup in Qatar is now within touching distance for Jamaica’s national Under-17 footballers.

Sunday’s emphatic 12–nil demolition of the Cayman Islands in Costa Rica pushed the young Jamaicans to the brink during their CONCACAF Under 17 World Cup qualifier campaign.

That scoreline stands as the team’s second-largest winning margin in Under-17 World Cup qualifying, surpassed only by the 19–nil victory over the U.S. Virgin Islands back in 2014.

Midfielder Kelvin Brown dominated proceedings with four goals, igniting the rout with an opener inside the very first minute.

Support came via Tyraun Bembridge’s pair, a brace from captain Jahmarie Nolan, two strikes by Jamone Lyle, and a single goal from Rajon McKenzie.

An own goal by William Kirksey rounded off a lopsided afternoon for the Cayman Islands.

With the points secured, the Jamaica Under-17 men’s national football team moved to a maximum six points at the top of the group, level with Canada Under-17 men’s national soccer team.

Only a draw against Canada on Wednesday is needed to seal qualification for a third FIFA Under-17 World Cup finals.
