Alleged Interference in South Coast Road Project Draws Gov’t Rebuke
Government officials have spoken out against alleged efforts to obstruct the South Coast Highway Improvement Project now under way in St. Thomas.
According to Works Minister Robert Morgan, reports have surfaced that certain persons attempted to insert themselves unlawfully into the development.
These individuals are accused of trying to “take over” construction tasks, appoint their own liaison representatives, and alter existing security protocols on the ground.
Concerns have also been raised about accounts of people forcing their way into the Hordley compound and demanding jobs outside of the established employment framework.
Unacceptable behaviour of this nature will not be tolerated, Mr. Morgan declared.
He underscored that national projects will not be hijacked, contractors must not be intimidated, and political pressure will never replace lawful authority.
A formal letter has been dispatched by the Minister to Police Commissioner Dr. Kevin Blake, seeking a swift probe into reported threats against employees and staff of China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC).
Assurances were given that the works in St. Thomas, as well as other locations across Jamaica, will move forward under conditions of order, fairness, and strict adherence to the rule of law.
