Demarai Gray Set for English Return with Birmingham City Reunion
Reggae Boyz winger Demarai Gray is set to return to English football after agreeing terms with Birmingham City, the club where his professional journey began.
The 28-year-old is joining the EFL Championship side on a free transfer from Saudi Pro League club Al Ettifaq.
The Saudi club has retained a 20 per cent sell-on clause as part of the deal. Gray successfully completed his medical over Sunday and Monday.
Gray’s move brings him back to St Andrew’s, where he first broke through after joining Birmingham’s academy in 2006.
He made his senior debut for the Blues in October 2013 at just 17 years old and went on to make 78 appearances, scoring eight goals. In January 2016, he transferred to Leicester City for a reported £3.7 million.
He became part of football history just months later, contributing to Leicester’s unforgettable 2015–16 Premier League title win.
After five seasons at the King Power Stadium, Gray moved to Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen in January 2021, before returning to the Premier League with Everton later that year. He joined Al Ettifaq in 2023.
On the international stage, Gray has made 27 appearances for Jamaica, scoring seven goals since making his debut for the Reggae Boyz.
Now set to return to the club where it all started, Gray’s experience and attacking ability are expected to be key assets for Birmingham as they prepare for the upcoming Championship season.
