Clayton Runs World Leading Time as Jamaicans Shine in Doha
Jamaica’s Tia Clayton claimed victory in the women’s 100m at the Doha Diamond League in Qatar, clocking 10.92 seconds — the fastest time in the world this year.
She finished ahead of her twin sister Tina, who took second in 11.02 seconds, while Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce placed fourth in 11.05.
Rasheed Broadbell added to Jamaica’s gold medal tally with a win in the men’s 110m hurdles, crossing the line in 13.14 seconds.
Olympic silver medallist Shanieka Ricketts was also successful, winning the women’s triple jump with a leap of 14.72 metres. She beat Olympic champion Thea Lafond in the process.
In other Jamaican results, Fedrick Dacres finished seventh in the men’s discus with a best throw of 64.81 metres. The event was won by Australia’s Matthew Denny, who threw 68.97 metres.
Adele Tracey placed well down the field in the women’s 1500m, which was won by Kenya’s Nelly Chepchirchir in a season-best 4:05.00.
