West Indies Aim for Series Victory After Dominant Win Against Sri Lanka
The West Indies will look to build on their recent momentum and secure a second consecutive win as they face Sri Lanka in the second game of the three-match T20 International series in Dambulla tomorrow.
Riding high from a dominant 3-0 series whitewash against Pakistan in August, the West Indies, currently ranked second in the ICC Men’s T20 rankings, are now unbeaten in their last four matches.
Their latest victory came yesterday when they defeated Sri Lanka by five wickets with five balls to spare, taking a 1-0 lead in the series.
Chasing a target of 180, the West Indies reached 180 for 5 in 19.1 overs, with Jamaican opener Brandon King leading the charge.
Returning from injury, King smashed a blistering 63 off 33 balls.
He was well-supported by fellow opener Evin Lewis, who contributed a rapid 50 off 28 balls, as the pair put on a 107-run partnership for the first wicket.
Earlier, Sri Lankan captain Charith Asalanka (59) and Kamindu Mendis (51) guided their team to 179 for 7 from their 20 overs. Romario Shepherd was the pick of the West Indies bowlers, claiming 2 for 29.
With the Windies riding this wave of success, they will be aiming to seal the series with another strong performance tomorrow.
