Star-Studded 66-Member Team Announced for Paris Olympic Games
The Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) has announced a star-studded 66-member team to represent Jamaica at the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympic Games, which begins later this month.
Leading the charge is the fastest man in the world, Kishane Thompson, who headlines a formidable sprint lineup including Oblique Seville and Ackeem Blake.
On the women’s side, the highly decorated Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, entering her fifth Olympic Games, will lead the team alongside Shericka Jackson. Joining them are Olympic debutantes Tia Clayton, Lanae-Tava Thomas, and Niesha Burgher.
In the men’s 200 meters, newly crowned national champion Bryan Levell and Andrew Hudson will compete. The women’s 100 meters hurdles team features new national record holder Ackera Nugent, two-time World Championship gold medalist Danielle Williams, and Janeek Brown, with Megan Tapper as a reserve.
The men’s 110 meters hurdles team includes Olympic champions Hansle Parchment, Orlando Bennett, and Rasheed Broadbell, with Tyler Mason as the reserve.
Deandre Watkins, the newly crowned national champion, leads the men’s 400 meters team, which includes Sean Bailey and Jevaughn Powell, with national record holder Rusheen McDonald as a reserve.
The women’s 400 meters team comprises national record holder Nickisha Pryce, Junelle Bromfield, and Stacey Ann Williams, with Stephenie Ann McPherson as a reserve.
In the women’s 400 meters hurdles, two-time World Championship bronze medalist Rushell Clayton is joined by Shiann Salmon and Janieve Russell, with Andrenette Knight as the reserve.
The men’s team for the event includes Roshawn Clarke, Jaheel Hyde, and Malik James-King, with Assinie Wilson as the reserve.
Natoya Goule-Toppin and Adelle Tracey will compete in the women’s 800 meters, with Tracey also doubling in the 1500 meters. Navasky Anderson, the national record holder, will represent Jamaica in the men’s 800 meters.
In field events, Lamara Distin and Romaine Beckford will compete in the women’s high jump, while Jaydon Hibbert and Jordan Scott will represent the men in the triple jump. The women’s triple jump team features Shanieka Ricketts, Kimberly Williams, and Ackelia Smith.
Tajay Gayle, Carey McLeod, and Wayne Pinnock will compete in the men’s long jump. Samantha Hall is the lone entrant for the women’s discus, while the men’s team includes Roje Stona, Ralford Mullings, and Traves Smikle, with Fedrick Dacres listed as the reserve.
In the shot put, the women’s team features Lloydricia Cameron and Danniel Thomas-Dodd, with Rajindra Campbell representing the men. Nayoka Clunis will compete in the women’s hammer throw.
