Government Set to Distribute 300 Land Titles to Clifton Residents in February

In a significant move aimed at rectifying the aftermath of a demolition exercise that displaced several residents in Clifton last October, Prime Minister Andrew Holness has announced plans to distribute 300 land titles to affected individuals in the community next year.

The announcement came during a ceremony where Prime Minister Holness handed over a housing unit to one of the affected residents as part of the New Social Housing Programme on Tuesday.

“We now have about 200 titles ready, and I wanted to do the titling and the handing over at the same time. As it turned out, both could not have been done. I’m going to take up your suggestion of doing it sometime in February. Yes. By then, we should have about 300 titles ready,” declared Prime Minister Holness.

The Prime Minister also reassured residents that the government is committed to providing regularised housing for those who had their homes demolished during the exercise.

This move is seen as a step towards reaffirming the government’s dedication to community development and increasing land ownership.

“They’ve already identified houses that should have been transferred from within Clifton proper into the reserve area, which we are. And so that process needs to start. So I’m going to undertake to have that process begin so that we are able to properly scribe out the roads in the area and properly have the lands that are titled physically match the title on the ground. As soon as the others have sought to regularize themselves, we will extend a similar treatment,” Prime Minister Holness announced.

The Tuesday ceremony marked the handing over of a housing unit to Shaneil Francis, one of the victims of a land scam in the Greater Bernard Lodge development area.
