Jamaica and Guatemala Battle to 2-2 Draw in Exciting Women’s Gold Cup Qualifier

On Sunday evening, Jamaica and Guatemala played to an enthralling 2-2 draw in a Women’s Gold Cup qualifier that had spectators on the edge of their seats.

Guatemala, entering the match with high hopes, opened the scoring in the 28th minute when Leslie Ramirez executed a stunning strike.

She brilliantly collected a corner kick and lofted the ball over the outstretched arms of Jamaica’s goalkeeper, Aliyah Morgan, to give Guatemala an early 1-0 lead.

Jamaica, however, wasted no time in responding to the Guatemalan advantage. Just four minutes later, in the 32nd minute, Melissa Johnson capitalised on a long pass from Malikae Dayes.

Johnson expertly slotted the ball into the net with her left foot, leveling the score at 1-1.

The second half saw Jamaica seizing the momentum and turning the tide in their favor. In the 52nd minute, Zoe Vidaurre fired home a loose ball deep within the Guatemalan area. The Guatemalan defense failed to clear a corner kick, and Vidaurre’s precise finish gave Jamaica a 2-1 lead.

Guatemala, showing their resilience, responded to the Jamaican lead with vigour. Aisha Solorzano, in the 56th minute, displayed her finishing prowess by capitalising on a surgical pass from Ana Martinez to even the score at 2-2.

As the clock ticked down, Jamaica had a golden opportunity to snatch a late victory, but Guatemala’s goalkeeper, Alexia Estrada, made an incredible save in the 80th minute, preserving the hard-fought point for her side.

With this draw, Guatemala now holds four points after three matches, while Jamaica has earned a point after playing two games.
