West Indies Women Secure Morale-Boosting Win Against New South Wales Women in T20 Practice Match
In a riveting Twenty20 practice match during their Tour of Australia, the West Indies Women’s cricket team managed to pull off a four-wicket victory over the New South Wales (NSW) Women, although concerns about their batting performance remained prevalent.
The match, which took place at Cricket Central in the Sydney Olympic Park complex on Thursday, saw West Indies Women chasing a target of 106 runs set by the NSW Women.
The Caribbean side’s batting lineup faced early setbacks, finding themselves at a precarious eight for three in the third over, courtesy of a fiery spell by pacer Maitlan Brown, who claimed two early wickets.
However, Shemaine Campbelle took charge and contributed significantly with her composed innings, scoring 33 runs.
Captain Hayley Matthews also made a valuable contribution of 24 runs. Together, they formed a crucial partnership that inched their team towards the 50-run mark, adding 36 runs to the scoreboard.
Unfortunately, both Campbelle and Matthews fell victim to the determined NSW Women’s bowling attack, resulting in three wickets tumbling in just 24 balls.
The West Indies Women’s chase was suddenly at a crossroads.
The team’s lower middle-order stepped up when it mattered most, with Aaliyah Alleyne, remaining unbeaten on 19, and Zaida James, not out on 15.
This unbroken partnership of 32 runs ensured that the visitors reached their target with 13 balls to spare, securing a morale-boosting victory.
In the earlier innings, West Indies Women bowled well with off-spinner Karishma Ramharack leading the charge by claiming three crucial wickets for just 12 runs from her three overs.
The NSW Women struggled to make an impact with the bat, posting a total of 105 for nine in their allotted 20 overs.
