Jamaica set to receive 2 million visitors this year

Jamaica is well on its way to hit the two million mark in visitor arrivals by the end of the year according to Minister of Tourism and Entertainment Dr Wykeham McNeill.

Dr McNeill was speaking at a luncheon for Canadian Travel Agents at the Spanish Court Hotel, New Kingston, last Friday.

Between the months of January and October, 1,659,330 tourists have arrived on the island, a 0.2 per cent increase over 2012. The month of August earned a 4.1 per cent increase, September,  a three per cent increase and the early figures for October show an incredible 10 per cent increase.

Dr McNeill was especially delighted with the fact that bookings for the coming winter tourist season 2013/2014 look very good, and has announced a number of flights aimed at keeping the numbers up.

“Good airlift arrangements are in place – as of November 1, Transaero is moving from 320 seats to over 500 and TUI is bringing the airline industry’s most eagerly anticipated new product, the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, which will make its inaugural flight to the Caribbean to Montego Bay on November 7,” revealed Dr McNeill.
