Jamaica’s Borders To Remain Closed To Incoming Passengers For Another 14 Days

Prime Minister Andrew Holness has announced that the closure of Jamaica’s borders to incoming passengers has been extended by another two weeks.

According to Mr Holness, the extension of the restriction to incoming passengers is to help curb the spread of the deadly, novel coronavirus (COVID-19) on the island.

Via a social media post, the Prime Minister reiterated the announcement saying:

“We will extend our border closures for a further 14 days, following which, a review will be done.”

The Prime Minister also reminded seniors to remain at home in a separate social media post stating:

“As we confront the global pandemic, COVID-19, we have asked our seniors to stay home to reduce their exposure to the disease.

“Being asked to stay inside doesn’t mean they have to be alone. We should check in on them and make sure they have all they need.

“I brought some supplies with me as I checked on seniors in my constituency recently and reassured them that although they are restricted to their homes, they are not alone.”

Globally at least 1,134,399 COVID-19 cases have been confirmed with at least 60,427 deaths linked to the disease.

To date, there have been three COVID-19 related deaths in Jamaica.
