Bolt, Omar McLeod to Face Off In Monaco
On Friday, Jamaica’s Olympic 110m hurdles champion Omar McLeod and eight-time Olympic gold medallist Usain Bolt are expected to face off in a 100m showdown at the Monaco Diamond League.
This will be Bolt’s first 100m race since his visit to German national football team doctor Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt last month with a stiff back after clocking an uninspiring 10.06 sec victory at the Golden Spike meeting in Ostrava.
That race marked the first time the world’s fastest man failed to run sub 10 seconds on two consecutive occasions in a single season during his professional career.
Earlier in June, the world’s fastest man won his final competitive race on Jamaican soil at the second JN Racers Grand Prix at the National Stadium with a 10.03 clocking.
Bolt has already sought to allay fears regarding his readiness for the upcoming world championships which begin on August 5, saying:
“I never worry. I always tell you guys if my coach is not worried, I am not worried. I just need to go to my doctor and get everything checked out to make sure everything is smooth and continue training so when my next race in Monaco comes, I’ll see where I am at.”
Last year Omar McLeod, despite being a specialist hurdler became the first athlete in history to run under 10 seconds for the 100m and 13 seconds for the 110m hurdles.
McLeod capitalised on a 2.0m/s breeze to clock 9.99 at the John McDonnell Invitational in Fayetteville, USA.
