Omar McLeod Smashes National 110M Hurdles Record

On Saturday night, Omar McLeod broke the national record in the men’s 110m hurdles when he registered a world-leading 12.90 seconds at the National Senior Championships at the National Stadium.

The Olympic gold medallist was quick out the blocks and powered home to smash the previous record which stood at 12.94.

The 23-year-old now has his sights set on the world record. After breaking the national record, McLeod stated “I did not get it, so I am going after it next time.”

He added “The coach wanted a 12.8 and I know he’ll be upset. But I can tell him I set a national record of 12.90 and I’m now the fifth fastest man in history.”

Last year, McLeod secured Jamaica’s first ever Olympic gold medal in the men’s 110-metre hurdles at the Rio Olympics.

He also boasts the four fastest times in the world this year.
