Reggae Boy Wes Morgan Tastes Champions League Victory
Champions League Victory for Jamaica Defender!
On Wednesday (September 14), Jamaica international Wes Morgan helped his English based club Leicester City record a comprehensive 3-0 win over Club Brugge of Belgium.
This is the first time a Jamaican International has won a game in the group stages of the UEFA Champions League.
It is also the first ever victory for Leicester in the annual continental club football competition.
Marc Albrighton found the back of the net in the 5th minute with the first shot of the game for Leicester after a defensive error from right-back Luis Hernandez’s long throw.
The lead was then doubled by Riyad Mahrez who curled in a masterful free-kick before half-time.
Leicester got goal number three 15 minutes after the break after winger Jamie Vardy was brought down in the area. Mahrez then scored the resulting spot kick.
It must be a wonderful feeling for the Reggae Boy as in previous years, he would watch the Champions League on television.
According to the Daily Mail, Morgan stated:
“Normally I am watching the Champions League on TV with friends,’ Morgan said. ‘I go to my mate’s house, we get together and just chill.”
The 32-year-old also said: “To be involved now is amazing. It feels special. I am not getting younger so to still be able to be involved in a competition like this is fantastic”.
