Bolt Named Among the Top 10 Sportspersons of 2016
Jamaica’s Usain Bolt, the man widely regarded as the best sprinter in history sits in second spot on a recent listing of the top 10 sportspersons for 2016.
The list was compiled by the Daily Mail, and is based on the performances and achievements of the athletes over the past 12 months.
Bolt recently came off a hamstring injury to clock 19.89 seconds over 200m at the London Anniversary Games.
During the last 12 months, he also won both the 100m and 200m events at the 2015 IAAF World Athletics Championships in Beijing.
The number one spot is occupied by Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic who earlier this year won the French Open making him only the third player in history to hold all four Grand Slam titles at the same time.
Tennis Star Serena Williams is third. Williams’ well deserved inclusion comes after recently winning her 7th Wimbledon singles crown to equal Steffi Graf’s open era record of 22 Grand Slam titles.
The top 5 is rounded off by Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo who are joint 4th and three time Tour de France winner Chris Froome,
The rest of the top 10 includes WBA, WBC, IBF and IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin, NBA stars LeBron James and Stephen Curry – who are joint 7th – reigning Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton, distance runner Mo Farah and swimmer Michael Phelps.
