Sad Loss for Many Soap Opera Fans
Jeanne Cooper, a soap opera star for one of the most widely watched daytime shows in Jamaica and the world has died. She played the role of Katherine Chancellor for almost four decades on The Young and the Restless.
Cooper died yesterday morning in her sleep at the age of 84. Her son, actor Corbin Bernsen, wrote on Facebook. The family has confirmed the death to CBS, according to a network spokeswoman.
Her son had previously tweeted on April 12 that his mother faced an “uphill battle” for an undisclosed illness.
Cooper joined the popular daytime show only six months after its debut March 1973 debut, claiming the title of longest-tenured cast member. The role earned her 11 Daytime Emmy nominations and a trophy for best actress in a drama series in 2008.
