Jamaica’s Top Performing Secondary Schools in CSEC – 2015 as Listed by Educate Jamaica
EducateJamaica.org has published its ranking of Jamaica’s top performing secondary schools for 2015.
In its publication titled THE CSEC RANKINGS 2015: The Ivy League Edition, Educate Jamaica looked at each school and calculated what percentage of students earned a minimum of 5 CSEC subjects (including Mathematics and/or English) at the end of grade 11.
According to their listing, seven of the top ten schools are all girls and slightly under half of the top performing schools are located in Kingston & St. Andrew.
Percentages are based on the cohort and schools where 80% or more of students earned 5 subjects including Mathematics and/or English.
Educate Jamaica is a Social Enterprise Education Project (SEEP), which combines a think tank platform with education services for education stakeholders. It’s an online platform which focuses on innovation and development within the education sector of Jamaica.
The rankings are based on the CSEC results of 2014.

My problem with statistics is that they reflect anything you want them to. How can you conclude from the cohort when there are some schools that only send up 100 kids for csec while other schools will send up 300. Is’nt it therefore logical that the school with 100 students should get a better percentage pass than the school with 300 students? If 200 of the students from the school with 300 kids should pass that school would only have a 66.3 % pass while if 90 of the 100 from the other school passed they would have a 90%… Read more »
Does this list account for students who passed the exam prior to 5th form and did not resit it in 5th form

Sample size is crucial to interpreting statistics. The rankings above represent an interpretation void of factors that fed into the results.

I consider these statistics as maliscious, researchers MUST take into consider all variables must be equal. How can you compare the progress of an institution based on the number of students passing five or more subject in any given cohort when are secondary institutions in Jamaica that recieve students with an average of 20%. For example, grades in maths 5, language 10, comm. task 0, yet it is expected that these schools should produce students passing five subjects when your time is spent for the next three years teaching these students how to read. I would prefer the list be called “Jamaicas schools with best csec passes” rather than “Top performing schools”
A child can succeed in any institution, once the child is motivated and there is parental involvement.
No surprise here…these schools will remain in the top positions because they continue to receive the creme of the crop from the primary schools. KMT! Schools like Norman Manley High, Guys Hill High, Charlemont High and several others in the inner city if we take all the variables into consideration the world will realize what great job the staffs of these other schools are doing. The teachers in the schools on this list could not survive a day in those lower ranking schools…i know i have been there. This lists for 2014 yet the headline says 2015
If they continue to place gsat student base on the their percentage then this is crop..cuz the schools tht receive students with higher percentage will always be on top..so un less they are going to ave two groups of top performing schools, where the schools tht received the students with the higher percentage will be grouped and likewise for the school that received the lower percentage…this way there will be a fairer chance for all schools
Congrats to these schools. Happy for the students and teachers. Just pray for the day the other schools/students will get just 1/10 the opportunity granted to these schools/students. A school gets students with straight 90’s for GSAT is compared with a school that gets students with grades from 18 – 50. Proud of the one sided view of these persons who does these rankings. The growth of the students in these school are not seen as improvement. SAD
Do you Know that in order for High schools to appear like they are “this exceptional” they acually bar students for taking compulsary exams, EVEN those that are already paid for , to better their stats….. effectively wasting sponsors money and hurting students chances of even redeeming themselves at the later part of the sumester becuase they didn’t recommend them; ALL BECAUSE OF THEIR STUPID STATS !
No surprise here; check out these top schools and their vibrant PTA’s, the discipline and confidence instilled and projected by these students that gives these institutions a character that is left to be desired by many.

Why not create a list of “allround” schools…that would factor extra curricular activties……Like Boys ang Girls champs and Manning cup
Why compare all schools while there is a bias in the system? The government is placing all the top students in these so called top schools, while placing all the remedial students into some schools. All this is nonsense if all the schools don’t have equally capable students. The government should place the students heterogeneously instead of homogeneously (in terms their academics) in schools across the country. Until that happens, these high school rankings are fake!!!

How can u expect certain schools to b ranked in top ten when they keep getting the same students over and over with gsat average below 40%. These schools will continue to be at the top because of the quality students they get each year. I think they need to recognize the schools that add value to students. Not trying to be a hater, congrats to the students at those top schools bt have we ever think about it that those schools get 90-100% average students n they left with that average, wats the value added. Funny how exams are still being graded for 2015 exams yet there is already an analysis. Begs the question of its validity.

I believe we should not worry about these numbers. It is wonderful that the 24th school has an average above 80%. This is great! Jamaican schools are the best. I have taught in Jamaica and the U.S. I am very impressed.
