Jamaican is Teacher of the Year in Florida
It is no secret that Jamaica has some of the best teachers in the world.
A former Titchfield High teacher has been named ‘Broward County Mathematics Teacher of the Year 2014-2015 for Middle Schools’.
Broward County is the second most populous county in Florida and the 18th most populous in the United States.
Lana Patterson, a teacher at William Dandy Middle School in Fort Lauderdale, earned the the coveted prize from a total of 50 nominees.
Patterson, a St Joseph’s Teachers’ College alumna moved to the United States in 1992 having taught in Jamaica for a total of 18 years.
This was her second time vying for the coveted award, having been nominated in 2013-2014, the same year she won Teacher of the Year at William Dandy.
