India Clinch 2–0 Series Sweep After Dominant Win Over West Indies
India wrapped up a dominant 2–0 Test series win over the West Indies after cruising to a seven-wicket triumph on the fifth and final day of the second Test in Delhi on Tuesday.
Resuming play at 63 for one and needing only 58 more runs to complete the chase, the hosts took just over an hour to get the job done, finishing on 124 for three. KL Rahul led the way with an unbeaten 58, while Dhruv Jurel closed out the match not out on six.
Sai Sudharsan, who started the day on 30, added nine before being dismissed for 39, and Shubman Gill contributed 13. West Indies skipper Roston Chase took two for 36, and left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican bagged one for 38.
The outcome marked Gill’s first series success as India’s Test captain and extended India’s stranglehold over the Caribbean side to ten consecutive wins in the format.
Match totals were: India 518 for five declared and 124 for three; West Indies 248 and 390.
With the sweep, India climbed to 61.9 percent of available points on the ICC World Test Championship table, solidifying their third-place position.
Roston Chase, though disappointed with the result, praised his team’s fighting spirit and viewed the contest as a potential turning point for the regional squad.
“This is the kind of fight that I wanted to see from us from matches before,” Chase noted after the defeat. “I think this is a stepping stone for us to go forward and improve as a Test-playing nation. This performance should give us belief and confidence that we can compete against top sides.”
He added that maintaining a positive mindset, even in defeat, was vital for progress. “Even if it’s for us to lose, we have to lose in a good way — in a positive way — where we can take a lot of positives from the game. The main area for improvement is our batting. That’s what has hurt us in the last two series. I think our bowling unit is solid, despite the injuries, but once we start putting up strong first-innings totals, we’ll be in a position to fight for victories in the Test Championship.”
Attention now shifts to limited-overs cricket, as the West Indies prepare for their next assignment — a white-ball tour of Bangladesh. The squad is scheduled to arrive on Wednesday night local time, ahead of Saturday’s first One-Day International.
