Holness to be Sworn in as Jamaica’s Prime Minister on September 16
Dr. Andrew Holness will officially be sworn in as Jamaica’s next Prime Minister on Tuesday, September 16, according to a statement released by King’s House this afternoon.
The swearing-in ceremony will take place on the ceremonial lawn at King’s House, with Governor General Sir Patrick Allen presiding over the proceedings. The event is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m.
Holness, leader of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP), visited the Governor General today following the official confirmation of the election results.
The Electoral Office of Jamaica (EOJ) formally notified Sir Patrick Allen on Monday that the JLP secured victory in the recent general election.
The final count, which concluded on Sunday, confirmed that the JLP captured 35 parliamentary seats, while the People’s National Party (PNP) secured 28.
This outcome ensures that the JLP will form the next government with a clear majority in the House of Representatives.
Holness’s swearing-in will mark his return to Jamaica House, having previously served as Prime Minister.
The upcoming ceremony will also signify the beginning of a new parliamentary term under JLP leadership, with key policy directions expected to be outlined in the coming weeks.
