The Government of Jamaica has welcomed the United States Department of State’s decision to revise its travel advisory for the island to Level 2.

This new designation, which encourages Americans to exercise increased caution while in Jamaica, marks an upgrade from the previous Level 3 advisory.

According to the Office of the Prime Minister, the revision is seen as an acknowledgment of the government’s efforts to improve public safety and create a secure environment for both residents and visitors.

Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness praised the development, stating that it reflects the dedication of the security forces and government agencies.

He emphasised that the approach to reducing crime has been deliberate and data-driven.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator Kamina Johnson Smith, also welcomed the updated advisory, describing it as a result of effective diplomacy and sustained engagement.

She reaffirmed Jamaica’s commitment to upholding international standards of safety and transparency.

Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett noted that the advisory change is expected to benefit the tourism sector, while State Minister for Tourism Delano Seiveright added that reduced fears among travellers should lead to increased tourist arrivals.
