Morrison Recalled to Reggae Boyz Squad Amid Fan Calls and Coaching Reversal

Ravel Morrison has been named to the Reggae Boyz squad for the upcoming Unity Cup, a move confirmed by the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) on Monday.

The decision comes despite head coach Steve McClaren’s earlier public stance ruling Morrison out due to the standard and visibility of the Dubai third division, where the 32-year-old midfielder currently plays.

McClaren had previously emphasised that Morrison’s current league was “not of that standard,” citing a lack of footage and competition quality as reasons for his exclusion.

“There is no way I can even watch him on video,” McClaren stated, adding, “I don’t know what level he is playing at.”

The surprise recall follows weeks of intense public debate and growing calls from fans on social media for Morrison’s return.

While the JFF has not given an official reason for the change, the reversal suggests that fan sentiment may have influenced the selection.

McClaren, who has acknowledged Morrison’s technical quality and personality from their time together at Derby County, now appears to be giving the midfielder a fresh chance.

“There will be nothing better for me than to be able to pick Ravel at the top of his game,” he previously said.

With no clear explanation provided, Morrison’s inclusion signals a shift in approach—possibly driven, at least in part, by fan advocacy.
