Cavalier FC Defeated 2-0 by US Major League Team FC Cincinnati

Cavalier faced a setback in their Concacaf Champions Cup first leg match at the National Stadium, suffering a 2-0 loss to US Major League side FC Cincinnati.

Without several regular starters, Cavalier couldn’t prevent the visitors from taking the lead after 50 minutes.

Sergio Santos found the net with a low cross from inside the box, putting Cincinnati ahead.

In the dying minutes of the game, 21-year-old Malik Pinto extended Cincinnati’s lead, scoring his first senior goal with a well-placed strike from just inside the 18-yard box.

His goal came after receiving a back-heel pass from teammate Arquímides Or-dóñez.

The defeat leaves Cavalier with an uphill battle heading into the return leg at the TQL Stadium on February 28.

Meanwhile, Cincinnati, the reigning Supporters’ Shield winners, find themselves in a favourable position with a 2-0 advantage and two away goals.

This puts them in good stead not only for the upcoming return leg but also for their MLS regular-season opener against Toronto FC on February 25.

A potential round-of-16 showdown against Liga MX Titans CF Monterrey awaits Cincinnati if they can maintain their momentum from this victory.
