Reggae Girlz Slip to 40th in Latest FIFA rankings

Jamaica’s national women’s football team, the Reggae Girlz have slipped three places to number 40 in the latest FIFA/Coca-Cola Women’s World Ranking, but they stand strong as the fourth-ranked team in the Concacaf region as the new year approaches.

The team’s recent performances in the Women’s Gold Cup qualifiers, where they drew three and lost one of their last four matches, played a role in their current ranking.

The Concacaf rankings continue to be dominated by the United States at the second spot, followed by Canada at 10th, and Mexico, which climbed one position to 35th.

Despite the fluctuations, the Reggae Girlz remain steadfast behind these regional powerhouses.

Notably, Haiti has achieved its highest-ever ranking at 51st.

Trinidad and Tobago, securing the 78th position, and Guyana at 87th, represent the next best Caribbean teams on the FIFA rankings list.

On the global stage, there has been a major shift in power as World Champions Spain claimed the top spot for the first time, surpassing the United States.

Spain now joins an elite group, becoming only the fourth team to reach the summit of the rankings after the United States, Germany, and Sweden.

France made a notable climb of two spots to third place, with England holding firm in fourth.

However, Sweden slipped four places to fifth.

Germany, the Netherlands, Japan, Korea DPR, and Canada (10th) complete the top 10 in that order. Notably absent from the top 10 is Brazil, which slid two places to the 11th position.
