Usain Bolt Set This World Record 13 Years Ago Today!
On August 16, 2009, 22-year-old Usain Bolt shattered his own record in the 100-meter dash, winning the event in 9.58 seconds at the Berlin Olympic Stadium during the World Championships.
He became the first human ever to run the event in less than 9.6 seconds.
The record stands to this day and probably will not come under any serious threat for quite some time.
Bolt had previously clocked an otherworldly time of 9.69 at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, and this was despite slowing down before crossing the finish line.
Bolt announced his retirement from sprint in 2017.
