Athlete Held At Gunpoint By Armed Robber At UWI-Usain Bolt Track
Racers Track Club sprinter Zharnel Hughes was the victim of attempted armed robbery on Tuesday evening.
The incident reportedly took place as Hughes prepared for a practice session.
The 22-year-old track star who competes internationally for Great Britain told the Jamaica Gleaner: “I was putting on my sneakers at my trunk and this guy just came up pointing a gun in my face.
“He asked me for my phone and I ran off and the guy opened fire.”
According to reports, a a licensed firearm witnessed what was taking place and proceeded to return fire.
There have been no reports of physical injuries.
