Bolt Heads Strong Jamaica Team To London World Championship
Eight-time Olympic gold medallist Usain Bolt heads Team Jamaica’s 59 member squad for the upcoming IAAF World Championships scheduled to take place in London between August 4-13.
Bolt is one of 30 male athletes on the team which also includes Olympic 110 metre hurdles gold medallist Omar McLeod, 2011 world 100 metres champion Yohan Blake, London 2012 Olympic bronze medallists Warren Weir, Hansle Parchment, and Frederick Dacres.
Elaine Thompson, Jamaica’s double gold medallist at the Rio Olympics will lead the charge for the team’s 29 female athletes.
Among the females are Beijing 400m bronze medallist Shericka Jackson, and Beijing 100m finalist Natasha Morrison.
Christania Williams who was a finalist in Rio is also on the squad along with defending 100 metres hurdles champion Danielle Williams.
Donald Quarrie will be the Technical Leader for the squad to be managed by Ian Forbes with Maurice Wilson the head coach.
Former world 100 metres record holder Asafa Powell has not been named to the squad.
