United States Suspends Firearm Exports to Jamaica
The United States Embassy recently announced that shipments of firearms to Jamaica have been suspended.
On Thursday (November 10), via a statement, the embassy said that it is currently reviewing the firearm export licensing approval process, amid recent events concerning the Firearm Licensing Authority (FLA).
The embassy states that during the review period, there will be a temporary pause on firearm exports, as the embassy seeks further guidance from Washington regarding the long-term status of export licenses for firearms from the United States destined for Jamaica.
The FLA has received harsh criticism in recent times as a result of the Patrick Powell trial.
The FLA recently disclosed that the same gun license was issued to Mr. Powell and a police inspector.
However, police have since stated that resulted from a data entry error.
