Usain Bolt Foundation Helps Hurricane Victims in Haiti

The Usain Bolt Foundation (UBF) recently announced that it has partnered with Food for the Poor Jamaica to provide relief for communities affected by Hurricane Matthew in Haiti.

A release from the foundation states that the charity has opted to support local Jamaican businesses by purchasing non-perishables and water from Lasco Distributors instead of donating cash.

“We were saddened to hear of the devastation in Haiti caused by Hurricane Matthew.  I was particularly moved when I saw the pictures of the children who were affected and who had become homeless.   We had to do our part to relieve some of the suffering of our Caribbean children,” the release quoted Patron of the Usain Bolt Foundation, Dr. The Hon. Usain Bolt.

On October 4, 2016, Hurricane Matthew made landfall on southwestern Haiti as a powerful category-4 storm —the strongest storm to hit the Caribbean nation in over half a century.

Haiti is still trying to recover from a catastrophic magnitude 7.0 earthquake that rattled the country in 2010, claiming as many as 316,000 lives.

The Usain Bolt Foundation explained that it is dedicated to making children happy, and enhancing the character of children through educational and cultural development as they live their dreams.

The foundation promotes the following:

• healthy and safe environment;

• effective use of a recreational facility;

• children’s opportunity to dare to dream;

• stewardship;

• knowledge and philanthropy start with accurate information; and

• Responsible use of the financial resources.

Food For The Poor, as one of the largest international relief and development organizations in the nation, does much more than feed millions of the hungry poor primarily in 17 countries of the Caribbean and Latin America.

This interdenominational Christian ministry provides emergency relief assistance, clean water, medicines, educational materials, homes, support for orphans and the aged, skills training and micro-enterprise development assistance, with more than 95 percent of all donations going directly to programs that help the poor.
