Matthew Now Category 4 Hurricane, Still Projected to Impact Jamaica
Hurricane Matthew has intensified at a faster rate than many meteorologists predicted.
Weather forecasters had predicted the massive storm would become a category 3 hurricane (111-129mph) before impacting Jamaica sometime between Sunday and Monday.
Early this morning, (September 30) Matthew was still regarded as a category 2 storm but has intensified rapidly.
The storm is now boasting sustained wind speeds between 130–156 mph.
Fortunately, the storm is expected to lose some strength before passing over Jamaica if it follows the computer generated projections.
Matthew is the fifth hurricane of the 2016 Atlantic hurricane season.
