Bolt Unfazed By Gatlin’s Threats Ahead of Olympics

American sprinter Justin Gatlin recently stated publicly that he has finally found out how to beat the world’s fastest man – Jamaica’s Usain Bolt.

He also stated that he and other American athletes are confident of  taking back the 100m title for the United States.

Gatlin declared: “I’m going to win. We are bringing it (gold medal) back to the USA,”.

While speaking at the launch of Digicel’s Ring the Beat campaign at the Terra Nova All-Suites Hotel in New Kingston yesterday, Bolt countered Gatlin’s declaration by asking: “How long has he been saying that now?

“Every year he says that, so we will see, and we just have to wait.

“It’s just something that he says every year, and we will see,” added Bolt.

Bolt did however acknowledge Gatlin as a threat but also mentioned fellow Jamaican athletes Yohan Blake and Asafa Powell ahead of his defense of the 100m title at this summer’s Rio Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

“The record shows that it will be my fellow countrymen, Yohan Blake or Asafa Powell, and the United States sprinter Justin Gatlin, so either of the top three,” said Bolt.

Last August, an injury plagued Bolt produced arguably his greatest performance ever when he beat Gatlin by 0.01 seconds to win the world 100m title.
