TVJ: Where Are You Now?

There’s a rhetoric that, too often we tear down all that we’ve built with just one comment too many on the wrong platform.

We have come to adore two women on Magnum Kings and Queens, not because of their physical appearance, really, but because of their intellect and individual accomplishments within an industry that was unkind to the development of women in past decades.

We have seen women rise in media with extraordinary growth through the sacrifice of many pioneers of their kind. To see the strong leadership qualities that are obvious as evidenced in the many arenas within media is astounding. We see familiar faces that have now become household names due to their hard work and commitment.

The path that was prepared by many women, who now sit behind the limelight as beacons, is a permanent avenue for all with requisite ambitions.

What unfolded on national television last night was nothing short of a dramatic disruption in such growth and achievement. It leaves questions of egos; unbridled rivalries; pointless sensationalism; or even hormonal spikes.

Yet, whatever the reasons, the biggest loss was the professional lines that were crossed in the open view of a watchful nation. I cannot indulge in the fanaticism of the many women and men who chose sides because of the perceived preferences and connect that they hold. It is now time for an accountability measure that is already in place, to be put to effect.

TVJ, we are not asking for heads to roll but if you are the media powerhouse that you claim to be, then act accordingly. What I find most alarming is that your primary role as on the ground presenters in breaking news never picked up this perceived ‘beef’ and stemmed it. You are now left to react instead of acting on the matter before this unpleasant episode, pun very much intended.

It is good that women can motivate themselves with their own inner strength and confidence; that they can carve out their own unique identities within an industry that has so many battles; and improve the level of thinking within a gender and profession.

I applaud both ladies on their energies and presence but when their attitudes shifted to create a mockery of such troubling proportion, we demand answers. To this, we hold you totally responsible for what you placed before us, including our children. TVJ, we charged you; we judged you; we found you guilty on all counts!

Now it is up to you to determine your sentence by the way you respond to this matter. I see no reason to further my disgust for the role you played because even you have a voice to be aired. I await your urgent response.
