Was Jamaica’s “Axeman” Just Cheated Out Of A Win? (Video Highlights)

Jamaica’s “Axeman” – Nicholas Walters is a rising force in the world of boxing.

The former featherweight recently moved up in weight division to become a junior lightweight after failing to meet weight requirements in his previous weight class.

His most recent encounter in the ring saw him face off against Jason Sosa on December 19 at the Turning Stone Resort & Casino in New York.

Though the highly anticipated bout was expected to be very competitive, it appeared awfully one sided in favour of Jamaica’s “Axeman”.

The fight was however shockingly scored a majority draw with two judges, Don Ackerman and Wynn Kintz, scoring the fight 95-95, and the third judge, Tom Schreck, scoring it an even more stunning 96-94 for Sosa.

Walters appeared dominant from the opening bell.

“They all stink. They shouldn’t judge again,” said Carl Moretti, vice president of Top Rank, which promotes Walters and Sosa.

Harold Lederman, HBO’s unofficial judge, who was elected to the International Boxing Hall of Fame this week, had it 99-91 in favor of Walters.

Media representation ringside also overwhelmingly predicted Jamaica’s “Axeman” would be named winner.

According to CompuBox punch statistics, Walters landed 281 of 622 punches (45 percent), and Sosa landed 168 of 873 (19 percent). Walters also led 118 to 39 in body punches landed.

“I’m in total shock. I just can’t believe it,” a seemingly distraught Walters stated. “I was in total control of the fight. He was a good fighter, but I was never in any danger. I was never hurt, and I just can’t believe it.”
