MP Lisa Hanna Sparks Online Debate After Giving Out Orange Bags at School Treat
Jamaica’s Minister of Youth and Culture- Lisa Hanna sparked an online debate today for giving out orange coloured bags at a back-to-school treat.
Hanna who is also a Member of Parliament for South East St. Ann, was commended and criticized after she shared photos from the school treat via her Facebook Page.
The album containing the photos was captioned: “BACK TO SCHOOL TREAT
Books, vouchers, pens, pencils, khakis – some of the items in the annual back to school package for students in South East St Ann. Since I’ve been MP I have provided back to school assistance to residents of SE from the CDF, sponsorship and donation. We had a large support from parents and children who we treated with popcorn, ice-cream and child-friendly activities before the start of school next week.

Some of the public comments included:
“Well done minister.”
“Very noble gesture but why would you use a orange bag knowing the use of the colour by your political party. Surely we need to start being more mature about things. Not everything has to be politicised”
“AMAZING…if the others could only take a page from your book…”
“Well done but I hate when u mix politics with wat u doing y orange bag come on sometimes we can but aside that we done know u represent pnp”
Was it inappropriate for the minister to give out orange coloured bags? Share your thoughts in the comments.
