Online Petition Launched For Rodolph Austin After He is Denied UK Work Permit
Captain of Jamaica’s football team Rodolph Austin is now in a bit of a predicament after he was refused a work permit to play in England.
Austin was released by his former club Leeds United this summer having spent three seasons at the club.
New Football association rules stipulate that non-European Union players must represent countries in Fifa’s top 50 rankings over the last two years.
Jamaica is currently ranked at 76th.
Austin’s agent Darryl Powell recently stated that it’s been a very traumatic experience for the athletic midfielder.
While speaking with BBC Radio, Powell said:
“He’s devastated. This has changed his whole life.”
“We’re speaking to clubs but this is the place he wants to be. This is the country that he wants to be in and has been living in for the last three years.”
The new regulations have prevented Austin from taking up a lucrative three-year contract with Sheffield Wednesday which would have made him one of their highest paid players.
An online petition requesting the The UK Border Agency to reconsider granting Austin a work permit was recently launched.
