Police Officers Arrested For Corruption
A constable and a police sergeant from the Area One police division were arrested along with a businessman during a sting operation carried out by the Anti-Corruption branch in Savanna-la-Mar, Westmoreland yesterday.
Reports from the police are that the businessman became enraged over a transaction between himself and a contractor and then plotted with the sergeant and the constable to extort money.
A report was later made by the Contractor to police officials after an undisclosed sum of cash was demanded.
A sting operation was launched by The Anti-Corruption Branch resulting in the three men being taken into custody.
The identities of the men involved have not yet been revealed pending the results of further investigations.

It is good to see the Constabulary Force taking action to purge the Organization of corruption. However, in public reporting of these incidents I would like to see more exposure given to the positive aspects of Policing as well. It is not all bad, and not all Police Officers lack proper ethical conduct. I was stopped in St Ann’s Bay for speeding about two years ago. I was on my way from Highgate, St. Mary to Montego Bay to visit my sick mother briefly on my way to the Airport later that day. I was stopped in a spot check for speeding. I am a Law Enforcement Officer living in Texas, but although I had my credentials there in Jamaica I left them at the accommodation in Montego Bay. The Officer with whom I made contact was very professional, and though a ticket was warranted and certainly an opportunity for a corrupt Officer, no attempt was made at personal gain. I was merely issued a warning to slow down. You may conclude that it was one Police Officer to another, except that he did not know anything about me but for what I told him. I am on my way to visit my sick mother, before ending my visit and headed to the Airport on my way back home to Texas. I thought about that later and regretted not getting his name. He deserved a trophy.
