Reggae Boyz Squad Named For Copa América Centenario

The highly anticipated Copa América Centenario tournament will take place between June 3, 2016 – June 26, 2016.

For the first time Jamaica has been invited to participate in the prestigious competition.

The Copa América Centenario is a celebration of the centenary of CONMEBOL and the Copa América, and is to be the first Copa América hosted outside of South America.

Jamaica’s head coach Winfried Schäfer recently named his 23-man squad for the tourney.

Overseas based players are once again heavily featured in the lineup with only five local based players included.

Defenders – Damano Solomon (Portmore United), Michael Hector (Reading), Wes Morgan (Leicester City), Rosario Harriott (Harbour View), Adrian Mariappa (Crystal Palace), Kemar Lawrence (New York Red Bulls), Jermaine Taylor (Portland Timbers)

Midfielders – Chevone Marsh (Cavaler Sports Club), Joel McAnuff (Leyton Orient), Andrew Vanzie (Humble Lion), Michael Binns (Portmore United), Je-Vaughn Watson (New England Revolution), Lee Williamson (Blackburn Rovers), Rodolph Austin (Bronby IF), Garath McCleary (Reading)

Placed in Group C, the Reggae Boyz will face Venezuela, Uruguay and Mexico in the tournament’s opening round.

Jamaica is also slated to face Chile in a friendly on Friday, May 27 at 7 pm.
