The Court of Appeal has revealed that the preparation of its ruling for Vybz Kartel’s appeal of his murder conviction is at an advanced stage.
The revelation follows a lengthy delay of well over a year as prosecutors made their case to the Court of Appeal in July 2018.
According to a report by Nationwide News, last month Mr. Tavares Finson wrote to Court of Appeal President, Justice Dennis Morrison, inquiring about the year-and-a-half delay in the ruling being handed down.
The report states:
“In a letter dated December 2, the registrar told Mr. Tavares Finson that she has been directed to inform him and Attorneys for Kartel’s co-appellants that the finalisation of the judgment is at an advanced stage.”
The letter that was shared by the news outlet reads as follows:
I write with reference to the captioned matter and to your letter dated 21 November 2019 which was addressed to the President of this court.
I am directed to advise that the judgement herein is at an advanced stage of preparation. As soon as it is ready and the court has set a delivery date, all the parties will be duly notified.
