Argument over cellphone costs Clarke her life
Tarania ‘Plum Plum’ Clarke, a member of the Reggae Girlz this year, has been stabbed to death in Kingston.
Authorities on the island claim that the 20-year-old was killed during a fight with another woman, in an altercation over a cellphone late on Thursday (31 October). Police officials have detained the suspect.
Midfielder Clarke, the Waterhouse FC skipper, made her senior international debut for the Girlz in September. She scored in the thumping 12-1 success over Cuba in an Olympic qualifier.
She was part of the Girlz squad on their build up to the FIFA World Cup finals, but was didn’t play in France.
And Clarke was planning to move to the US to study in January 2020.
The Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) issued a statement that said they were “lost for words in expressing its profoundest sadness at the passing of Tarania”.
The statement continued: “The JFF family expresses condolences to the Waterhouse FC; her family; her friends and her colleagues on the senior team.”
Michael Ricketts, JFF president, said in his statement: “This was a young lady who has shown much potential and was very pleasant, warm and had real potential to make it at the highest level.
“She was very much a part of the Reggae Girlz squad during the recent Olympic qualifiers and did make an impact.
“I offer condolences to the family and friends of young Clarke.”
