Gunman killed attempting to rob police in St. Mary

The identity of a  gunman who was fatally shot by police  during an attempt to rob a police officer yesterday in Annotto Bay, St. Mary has been released.

The man has been identified as 19-year-old Gavin Patterson of a Port Maria address.

According to the police, about 4:24 am, a Constable attached to the St. Andrew North Police Division, was driving along the Bamboo District main road when two men blocked his path and then attempted to rob him.

The police stated that the Constable challenged the men, and a police patrol in the area, spotted what was taking place, and a shootout ensued.

Patterson was fatally shot, and his crony managed to escape.

Reports are that a 9mm pistol with 5 cartridges were allegedly seized.
