Charges have been laid against a man who was taken into custody for the murder of a toddler in Dean Pen, St Mary, last month and the wounding of two others.
He is 49-year old Clive Barrette of Dean Pen, St Mary. Mr Barrette has been charged with the murder of his 22-month old grand-niece, Eshauna Gardener and two counts of felonious wounding in relation to two men.
It is alleged that on October 30, the child was left in the care of Barrette who reportedly beat her to death. Mr Barrette stated that young Eshauna fell into a fire and got burnt.
However, a post mortem revealed that the toddler died from severe trauma to the head. In the meantime, its alleged that Mr. Barrette chopped and wounded two men the following day while he was on the run.
It is reported that the men tried to apprehend him and were chopped, one severely. Mr Barrette is to appear in court on Thursday December 12 to answer to two counts of felonious wounding.
