Man Killed in St Mary after Raping Daughter

A former male convict by the name of Wayne Campbell was shot dead by police after raping his daughter and slashing her throat along Guava Road in Clonmel, St. Mary yesterday morning. The incident took place sometime after 7 am, when he took his 15-year-old daughter to bushes in the community, where he reportedly raped her, slashed her throat and stabbed her several times in the abdomen. As news spread of the incident, several residents went to rescue the teen, however despite their attempts Campbell stood over his daughter’s body and fended off any attempt by residents. The police were alerted and failed in their bid to have the accused surrender. He was then shot after he swung his machete at a resident and he was taken to the Annotto Bay hospital where he died. His daughter was also taken to the Annotto Bay hospital where she underwent surgery. Her condition is unknown. Police revealed that the man served a 13-year sentence for murder, and he was freed in December 2012, but was wanted for unlawful wounding and eluded their dragnet for sometime.

I must first say that I am saddened by this incident that came at the most terrible time in Jamaica’s history when violence against children is becoming widespread. It was just 4 years ago,11-year old Ananda Dean was brutally murdered and dumped in a ditch in St. Andrew. Other names include: Shaneka Shakes, Shauna-Kay Ledgister, Sasha-Kay Brown, and Teonia Henry, whose body was found with multiple stab wounds in east Kingston in 2011. Still the numbers are escalating. In the past 12 years, according to The Jamaica Gleaner,1,600 children have been savagely murdered. These crimes against children are shocking and… Read more »
