Hundreds of mourners gathered yesterday to pay their last respects to Kimani Gray also known as “Kiki”. The 16-year-old who was fatally shot by two New York City police officers earlier this month.
He was killed on March 9, when he allegedly pulled out a gun as two plainclothes officers approached him on the street. Kimani’s parents are Guyanese and Jamaican.
Eyewitnesses have are disputing the claims made by the police, stating that Kimani was not in possession of a firearm.
Gray’s death ignited a week of protest in the East Flatbush neighborhood in New York by residents who said they were fed up, with what they call aggressive police tactics, including stopping and searching young black men without good reason.
