Jamaica Soars On Latest FIFA Ranking Following 2nd Place Gold Cup Finish

Jamaica has climbed 19 places on the latest FIFA Coca Cola world ranking following their 2nd place finish at the recently concluded Gold Cup tournament.

The FIFA World Ranking is a ranking system for men’s national teams in association football. 

Teams of the member nations of FIFA, football’s world governing body, are ranked based on their game results with the most successful teams being ranked highest.

Jamaica played a total of five games in the Gold Cup- losing only in the final to the host nation – The United States.

  

The Reggae Boyz dispatched Curaçao 2-0 in their opening game before battling to a scoreless draw against Mexico in their second group stage game. And a 1-1 draw in their final group stage encounter against El Salvador saw Jamaica comfortably earn a quarterfinal spot against Canada.

The Boyz went on to beat Canada 2-1 to earn a rematch  against Mexico in the semi-final. An 88th minute goal via a magnificent free kick by defender – Kemar Lawrence saw Jamaica beat Mexico in a Gold Cup tournament for the first time. Jamaica went down 2-1 in the final against the United States.

Jamaica is now the 5th highest ranked CONCACAF team. The top 5 from CONCACAF are as follows: Mexico (14), Costa Rica (21), USA (26), Haiti (55), Jamaica (57).

The top 5 globally are as follows: Brazil (1), Germany (2), Argentina (3), Switzerland (4), Poland (5).
