Young Jamaican Entrepreneurs Runners Up at International Diamond Challenge
Newark, Delaware USA – A team of Jamaican High School entrepreneurs have emerged winners of the International Diamond Challenge Pitch Competition for High Schoolers, raising over US $6000 in funding for their venture.
The student entrepreneurs founded “BoltBot”, a mobile application that allows consumers to self-check-out at the supermarket – drastically reducing wait time for average consumers in supermarkets.
The Diamond Challenge is a project by the University of Delaware’s HORN program. It aims to expose students to a modern entrepreneurship curriculum and provide a real opportunity for students to launch ventures.
The project is managed in Jamaica by Next Gen Creators, an organization on a mission to produce more young entrepreneurs in the Caribbean.
The four-member team which hails from Kingston and St. Ann, comprises Nathaniel Christie, Daniel Chatani, Ruth-Ann Armstrong and Gaurnett Flowers.
Ja’dan Johnson of Next Gen Creators shared “Jamaica’s youth definitely have the potential to do amazing things – given the right tools and opportunities. We are excited for what the future has in store.”
The students were sponsored by the US Embassy Jamaica and Aim Educational Services.
Next Gen Creators, a team of young entrepreneurs who promote coding and entrepreneurship. With tech on the rise throughout the world, Next Gen Creators wants to promote computer science by creating the island’s only code-marathon for youth.
