Bolt’s World-Record Berlin Runs Named Best in World Championship History

Jamaica’s Usain Bolt clocked some mind boggling times in the men’s 100 and 200m events at the Berlin World Championships in 2009.

The world’s fastest man set new world records with times of 9.58 and 19.19 respectively in the events, and stunned the sporting world.

A recently published ranking of the top 100 moments of IAAF World Championship history places Bolt’s aforementioned runs in first place.

The IAAF World Championships website states:

“The Jamaican’s world record-breaking feats over the 100 and 200m at the Beijing Olympics were done in such an astonishingly carefree manner”

“Bolt beat his chest en route to a 9.69 win in the 100m – that the anticipation was bubbling to see what he would do next in Berlin.”

Bolt earned another mention in the top 10 (#5) courtesy of his incredible victory over the United States’ Justin Gatlin in the men’s 100m at the 2015 World Championships in Beijing.

Shelly-Ann Fraser Pryce is the only other Jamaican mentioned in the top 20 (#18) – courtesy of her gold medal wins in the women’s 100m, 200m, and 4x100m relay at the 2013 World Championships in Moscow.

The website states:

“The Jamaican queen of sprinting matched Usain Bolt’s achievements in Moscow, winning gold in each of the 100, 200 and 4x100m, making her the first female athlete to do so in a single World Championships. In the 100m she annihilated her competition, clocking 10.71 to miss equalling the championship record by one-hundredth of a second.”
